Well, I think it's quite bizarre to propose some connection of alleged
"hubris of more powerful institutions" to causing the payment of a price
by the vulnerable heartland institutions, especially because I know that
many colleagues of at least one large east coast museum have been
sticking their necks out to keep the Nebraska State Museum from "paying
this price."

As I just pointed out in my last post, the heartland seems to be
inordinately paying the price for the hubris of more powerful
institutions
(especially on the East coast). In a way it's sort of a variation on
"the
last hired, the first fired". When times get tough, the most
vulnerable pay
an inordinate price.
