Raw's private collection note

Where would taxonomy be now if it wasn't for private collections by
amateurs and professionals alike in the past?

As an "amateur" Lepidopterist I keep a reference collection of
Lepidoptera, particularly microlepidoptera and like to think I am
actually contributing to science in the long term. Hopefully, one day
my collection will end up in a museum and be of use to others.

In many cases, a collection is the only way most "amateurs" learn about
their chosen group.
