I don't know about others, but I was taught (longer ago than Susan, I
suspect ;-) ), to pronounce the -aceae ending as if it were the three
separate letters: long A + cee + long e.
As for the word day, I am not aware of anyone who adds the e ending that
Ken suggests. Everyone I know (speaking "American" English) pronounces it
as if the y were missing; simply da (a long a).
Dick (that's a short i as in pick, not a long i as in dike).
