Catalog / protolog versus Catalogue / protologue

I can't help but wonder about the scholars of the day who must have argued
without success that 'orientate' ment 'towards the orient' and not towards
the east.

Orientate from California and you can take the long path to the east to get
to the orient, or the short path to the west.  Or you could just line up
properly.
