introns

Dear Taxacomers:

Do anybody has info on the function of introns in DNA and about their
possible phylogenetic significance?
I mean, who gains with introns, the organism or the intron itself (a kind
of virus?)... were do they first appeared in the tree of life? are them
present in ALL eucaryotes? Do we have info about their usefulness (sorry by
bad English!!!) in phylogenetic analyses?
