Outlets for alpha taxonomy

The three word explanation for this is almost certainly "Citation Impact
Factor" - most species descriptions do not accrue a high number of
citations, and therefore dilute a journal's citation impact factor. Since
there is bound to be some relationship between impact factor and number of
institutional subscribers, this will always be in the mind of editorial
boards.

Having said that, I am pleased to say that in my discipline (Herpetology),
the major herp journals still seem happy to take species descriptions.
