Consumer digital cameras on microscopes

This list might be as good a proxy as any for  a
rec.photo.digital.microscope group (I did dip into
sci.techniques.microscopy also), so, slightly off topic, but may I ask if
anyone has found any (other than the Coolpix) of the new generation 3-6
megapixels fixed lens 'prosumer' cameras  can be easily mounted on
stereo microscopes and used for live animal shots? The prospect of a
general purpose camera which will take short digital microscope videos as
well as reasonable quality stills has appeal!

The popular Nikon Coolpix 950/990/995 series mentioned handily has a
lens barrel outside diam almost same as an eyepiece tube and the outside
doesn't rotate when focussed, so I believe it's easy to mount on a
microscope without a phototube, but it's not the latest tech any longer.  The
latest Nikon Coolpix has a larger diam lens.
