electronic Plant Information Centre
Behind the leafy scenes of Kew Gardens, is one of the premier botanical
institutions in the world, dedicated to the investigation of all aspects of
plant science. An exciting initiative is the development of an electronic
Plant Information Centre (ePIC), a three-year project to bring together a
range of resources including databases, images and texts, and present
them on the Internet as a cohesive whole. Crucial to the success of this
project is a
Digitisation Manager
You will expand and improve our data holdings, by selecting and
applying data standards in key areas, specifically plant names and
geography, and organising and overseeing the digitisation of subsets of
our7 million-strong Herbarium collection.
An appreciation of plant taxonomy and nomenclature would be an
advantage, as would a more general understanding of botanical
collections and their users. You should be comfortable with using
software tools to analyse and manipulate data holdings, and possess
good interpersonal skills.
This is a three year appointment. Salary up to £21,373 + terminal bonus,
depending on qualifications and experience.
