The National Herbarium of the Netherlands (NHN) is an inter-university
institute of the Universities of Utrecht, Leiden, and Wageningen with a
collection of over 5.5 million specimens of phanerogams and cryptogams from
all over the world, and a plant biodiversity research programme including
floristics, taxonomy, phylogeny, biogeography, and molecular evolution. For
the Leiden University branch of the NHN, we invite applications for the
position of a

POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH POSITION
Phylogeny of Zehneria (Cucurbitaceae) based on ancient DNA

Vacancy number 2-218

The successful applicant is expected to:
- assist in the establishement of an ancient DNA facility (~30% time)
- develop DNA extractions and PCR amplifications procedures from herbarium
specimens and train the molecular technicians in ancient DNA work (~20%
time)
- carry out molecular phylogenetic research on Asian Cucurbitaceae (~50%
time)

Requirements:
· a Ph.D. in plant systematics or related fields
· experience with ancient DNA techniques
· a thorough understanding of phylogenetics and molecular systematics

We offer a temporary appointment of 2 years (38 hours per week). The salary
being commensurate with the qualifications of the candidate and in
accordance with Dutch national regulations to a maximum of EURO 4325,- gross
per month.
