TWO FACULTY POSITIONS:

MOLECULAR EVOLUTION AND SYSTEMATICS OF PLANTS
                       UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN

The Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and the Herbarium at
the University of Michigan solicit applications for two faculty
positions in the molecular evolution and systematics of plants.  The
first is a tenured position at the Associate Professor or Professor
level.  The successful candidate may be appointed as Director of the
Herbarium. The second position is for a tenure-track Assistant
Professor.  We seek accomplished individuals whose primary research
interests are in aspects of plant evolutionary biology such as evolution

of development, molecular evolution, and molecular systematics.  A Ph.D.

in an appropriate area is required.  Teaching responsibilities will
include participation in courses on systematics and evolution of
plants.  The successful candidate for Director will lead, administer and

help rebuild our program in plant evolutionary biology in the Herbarium
and the Department.

The Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology (EEB;
<http://www.eeb.lsa.umich.edu/>) is a newly created unit with 28 faculty

members in the fields of evolutionary biology, systematics, behavior,
paleontology, and population, community and ecosystem ecology.  A number

of faculty have joint appointments in the University Herbarium, Museum
of Zoology, Museum of Paleontology, School of Public Health, or the
Department of Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology. The
Department is consistently ranked among the top ecology and evolutionary

biology departments nationwide, and attracts excellent graduate students

(currently about ninety). The University of Michigan Herbarium, with
over 1.7 million specimens, has one of the largest collections of plants

in the western hemisphere,  with extensive worldwide representation, and

particular emphasis on North and South American taxa.
