correctness of identification in sequence studies

DDBJ/EMBL/GenBank database accepts gene sequence on the same organisms
by different teams, although I have neither sample entries nor
quntitative statistics on the duplication.
The inconsistency among them may be caused either by
sequencing error or difference of specimens/strains/lines etc
of the same organisms. Thus DDBJ/EMBL/GenBank asks data submitters
to include information on the identification of the sample used
such as accession numbers. I believe that journal editors
should instruct authors to declare the specimen identifier
in papers.

Concerning the retrospective update of scientific names in
DDBJ/EMBL/GenBank, I would like to note that:
Many entries on the sequence database have their relevant
references (published papers). If the database update
the scientific name in an entry, the entry will be
      inconsistent to the relevant reference.

Regards,
Hideaki
