Entoprocta - Kamptozoa

Dear all,
there is no priority rule on taxa at (or around) the phylum level. The
German-Austrian preference of Kamptozoa during the last decades was (so far
I know) somewhat correlated with the rejection of Claus Nielsen“s (1971 and
later) hypothesis that Entoprocta (Kamptozoa) and Ectoprocta (Bryozoa) are
direct sistergroups. At present I use both taxon names as "Entoprocta (=
Kamptozoa)".
A similar point is made to "Solenogastres/Caudofoveata versus
Neomeniomorpha/Chaetodermomorpha". The first pair of names is historically
associated with the hypothesis of subsequent, independent offshoots (my
preferred version), whereas the usage of the second pair of taxa usually is
correlated with the view (mainly represented by Amelie Scheltema) that both
taxa are direct sistergroups (see Haszprunar 2000: Amer. Malac. Bull. 15:
115-130 for recent cladistic analysis).
Best wishes
Gerhard Haszprunar
