Hate to brag, but ...

The finest place for graduate training in taxonomy, systematics, etc.,
especially of invertebrates, is the Washington, DC, area where the
systematists of the Smithsonian Institution (Department of Systematic
Biology), USDA, BRD, etc., work with local universities, like the University
of Maryland, College Park and George Washington University, in cooperative
PhD programs.

I am associated with two programs:
1) Maryland Center for Systematic Entomology (see under Research at
www.entm.umd.edu);
and
2) R. Weintraub Program in Systematics and Evolution
(www.gwu.edu/~Clade/index.html)

We also have a number of fine natural history illustrators working and
teaching here. The Guild of Natural History Illustrators I believe began
here.

Also, while we have many PEET projects based in Washington, you should
investigate this program and any Department which has a PEET project. PEET
= Partnership for Enhanced Expertise in Taxonomy (go to
web.nhm.ukans.edu/PEET/ )

Smile :-)
