Andrea,
The gender is feminine and there is no doubt about this. Do not be put
off by the fact that when Maton (in Trans. Linn. Soc. London 10:250)
published the generic name in 1811, he based the genus on his name E.
cardamomum. Although this appears to be neuter, "cardamomum" is, in fact
a noun in apposition and is not a (declinable) adjective. (Art. 23.5 of
the St. Louis Code). The feminine gender has been used by subsequent
authors.
I do not know of a website featuring gender of all plant genera, but you
can get a good idea of authors' use by consulting the International
Plant Names Index (IPNI) at:
