I fear we will have neither time, money or resources to carry out ATBIs all
over the place - I find the very idea of an ATBI conceptually flawed, and I
am not sure what questions it answers other than "how many x are there at
place y?". Obviously, however, some of the knowledge gained during the
course of conducting an ATBI can be put in a more general context. On the
other hand it certainly serves as a rallying point, much as does something
like the Flora of North America, but in neither case do I think that is
quite the issue. Mesibov's cri du coeur should be heeded.
