When (animal) type genus is a subgenus

Thanks to all Taxacomers who replied, online and off, to my query about generic vs. subgeneric types for a family-group name. To summarize the responses, under the principle of coordination, subgenera and genera are equal before the law in this respect. I had suspected that this was the case, but wanted to make sure I wasn't overlooking something. Many of the replies made the well-taken point that taxonomy and nomenclature are separate activities and that the decision to rank a genus-group taxon as a subgenus belongs to the former.

Much enlightened,

Barry
