Job Title: Curator of Arachnids & Myriapods

Duty Station: Windhoek, Namibia (National Museum of Namibia)

Salary grade: Grade 2SP (based on education and experience, N$ 63180 -
72384)

Job Description:
The National Museum of Namibia invites applications for a full-time,
tenure-track curator of arachnids and myriapods. The collection currently
consists of about 120 000 specimens, primarily non-acarine arachnids (see
http://www.natmus.cul.na/arachno/index.html). The successful candidate shall
be expected to:
1) maintain the collection at an international standard, with particular
emphasis on operational management and target-oriented development of the
collection
2) carry out independent biosystematic research on Namibian and African
arachnids, myriapods, or nematodes
3) promote taxonomic research on the collection, primarily through the
administration of loans
4) liaise with appropriate national and international initiatives for
research and information development, including databases
5) participate in national biodiversity research projects
6) prepare and assist with the preparation of visual, written and electronic
materials (e.g. displays, manuscripts, reports, web page descriptions,
presentations, etc.)
7) supervise, train, and advise subordinate museum personnel, students and
others
8) provide appropriate information, technical support, and specialist
knowledge to the Namibian public

Qualifications:  An appropriate 4-year B Science degree in biology plus 3
years experience or and appropriate MS degree. Experience in the curation of
Museum collections and biosystematic research is desired. The individual
should be mature, self-motivated, and conscientious.
