Two NERC PhD Studentships, available for October 2001
Studentships will be awarded in two of the following topics with the
supervisors listed:
1) Evolution of woodiness in island floras.

2) Life history strategies and variation patterns in Mosses.
Dr Royce E. Longton - r.e.longton at reading.ac.uk
3) Molecular diversity in the study of differentiation, dispersal and
domestication.
Dr Barbara Pickersgill - b.pickersgill at reading.ac.uk
4) Genetic diversity of rare endemic mediterranean Abies: implications
for conservation.
Dr Stephen L. Jury & Dr James Compton -
s.l.jury at reading.ac.uk, and j.a.compton at reading.ac.uk
5) Taxonomically intelligent systems on the Internet.
Prof. Frank A. Bisby - f.a.bisby at reading.ac.uk
The Centre for Plant Diversity & Systematics is a unique university
centre focusing on molecular and evolutionary systematics, floristics
and species diversity information systems, biodiversity informatics, and
the conservation of rare plants (www.systematics.reading.ac.uk).

To apply for a studentship and one or more of the topics, send a
curriculum vitae to the Director by May 18th. Enclose a letter saying
why you are interested in the topic and a one-page project proposal.
Interviews will be held on Monday 11th June. Candidates must be UK
students meeting the eligibility requirements of
