The reason they can't coexist is because to have two mutually
incompatable systems of nomenclature would create endless confusion.
If we followed your "logic" then it would be perfectly acceptable for
every taxonomist to have his own idiosyncratic system of
nomenclature. Since Phylocode is the new proposal, it has a case to
make. And it isn't making it.
