Epiphytes - Super-plants

Of course epiphytes previously(?) already had a name:

Bacon, Francis (1561-1626). Sylva Sylvarum (1627; 1826 edition, Basil
Montagu), Century VI: Experiments in consort touching the rudiments
of plants, and of the excrescences of plants, or super-plants.

Bacon's classification of mosses etc. as "super-plants" may seem a
little grand to non-bryologists, but sadly he means only epiphytes
(or parasites or "excrescences").
