"!" has a sayable shorthand in English, so you don't
have to say "exclamation mark Apogonidae",
or, as I would be likely to say, "explanation mark Apogonidae",
you can say "bang Apogonidae" or "Apogonidae bang".
Furthermore, standard monographic practice uses bang to
indicate "I have examined the specimen itself". And on annotation
labels bang stands for "I agree".
