Dear colleagues,
While analysing branching patterns in the tropical green algal genus Boodlea
(Cladophorales), I encountered terminology problems in describing certain
branching modes. The schematical representation of these branching modes
can be viewed at:
http://allserv.rug.ac.be/~fleliaer/boodlea/.
In certain species (e.g. Boodlea composita) the branching pattern is
generally irregular: branching modes 1 to 6 (scheme) occur ad random in a
single specimen. This implies that no collective terms (e.g. unilateral,
opposite, alternate, decussate, etc.) can be used.
All suggestions are welcome,
Frederik
