Position of Notoryctes: The Marsupial Mole

G'Day,

Is anyone familiar with the taxonomy of Australian mammalian fauna? I'm
interested in opening up a bit of a discussion on the taxonomic position of
the central/southern Australian Marsupial Mole Notoryctes typhlops, and/or
that of the northern species, N. caurinus. I'm wondering what primary data
you may have come across, if any...
