POSTDOC: POPULATION GENETICS (GBP 17.5k p.a)

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position at the Royal
Botanic Garden Edinburgh (Scotland) to work on a research project
investigating the population genetic structure of the "green tide" alga Enteromorpha.

The position which will be available for 9 months is available now and
is funded by the Scottish Executive Rural Affairs Department.

You will be responsible for the molecular genetic analysis of
populations of the dominant species of Enteromorpha in the estuary of
the river Ythan (Aberdeenshire, NE Scotland) and neighbouring locations,
using DNA fingerprinting methods. For this work an ABI 377 genetic
analysis system is available.

The ideal candidate has proven experience in the use of genetic
techniques such as AFLP fingerprinting to study plant populations. An
ability to synthesize data and report results efficiently is highly
desirable. Previous experience with seaweeds or algae would be an asset
but is not an absolute requirement. Samples will be collected during a
number of field trips to the Ythan, therefore a current driving license
is essential.
