Utrecht University, Section Plant Systematics

The section Plant Systematics makes up the Utrecht University branch of the
National Herbarium of the Netherlands (NHN). The NHN is an interuniversity
institute of the Universities of Leiden, Utrecht, and Wageningen. Its
collection includes 5.5 million specimens of phanerogams and cryptogams
from the Palaeo- and Neotropics and Europe. Research programmes focus on
floristics, taxonomy, phylogeny, and biogeography of selected groups, and
on biodiversity assessment. Excellent facilities for morphological,
anatomical, and ultrastructural research are available. At present,
facilities for molecular systematic research are being expanded.

The study of systematics and evolution of Annonaceae is among the main
missions of the Utrecht University branch of the NHN. Within this research
project we currently have a vacancy for a

The successful candidate will study the systematics of the Neotropical
genus Cremastosperma. The study involves a taxonomic revision of the genus,
phylogenetics on the basis of morphological and DNA sequence data, and a
strong biogeographic component. 
We are especially interested in candidates who combine a fascination for
plants and evolution with appropriate training at undergraduate level.
The position will be available for a period of 4 years on a full time
basis, and the successful candidate will be required to complete the
project with a Ph.D. thesis.

In accordance with regulations for Ph.D. students we offer a salary of ƒ
2398,- (1st year) up to ƒ 4077,- (4th year) gross per month (collective
labour agreement, Dutch Universities). In addition, there are allowances of
ƒ 700, ƒ 500, and ƒ 300 gross per month, respectively, for the first three
years.
