Hi Taxacomers,

The genus Beta L. is reported to contains 11-13 species, distributed in
Mediterranean and inland European countries. I have seen a paper mentioned
below which indicates that it also occurs in California (Beta vulgaris
introduced), I am telling about Beta macrocarpa. The paper where it is
mentioned is

McFarlane, J. S. 1975. Naturally Occurring Hybrids Between Sugar Beet and
Beta macrocarpa in the
Imperial Valley of California. J. Amer. Soc. Sugar Beet Technol. 18, 245 -
251.

Could any one kindly inform me about the species of Beta growing naturally
in the New World.

Regards to all,
