Opening for Research Assistant, Brooklyn Botanic Garden, Science Department,
Brooklyn, NY - [Permanent position; Open until filled]

Position Announcement: We seek a highly motivated, independent worker to
join the staff of the New York Metropolitan Flora (NYMF) (see
www.bbg.org/research/nymf). Position entails field collection of plants in
the greater NYC area, processing of plant specimens, and database entry of
plant records. NYMF is currently in its Aquatic and Wetland Plant research
segment, and R.A. is expected to participate in collecting plants in wetland
and freshwater habitats via wading and boating (Achilles SGX inflatable
craft). Other duties include travel to herbaria for data collection,
acquisition of collecting permits from public and private landowners,
working with volunteers & interns. Required: B.A. in field of plant
science/horticulture/ecology, working knowledge of database programs,
preferably MS Access, valid driver's license, willingness to travel, ability
to perform work outdoors in all weather conditions, independently and with
others. Preferred: knowledge of northeastern flora and field experience,
experience with GIS applications helpful. Excellent Benefits.
