GenBank and vouchers

Another useful reference regarding the value of vouchers and examples of
what can go wrong if you don't have them is:

Hosking, J.R., Sainty, G.R., and Jacobs, S.W.L. (1996). Certainty and
uncertainty in plant identification. In ‘Proceedings of the Eleventh
Australian Weeds Conference (Ed. R.C.H. Shepherd) pp. 464-467. (Weed
Science Society of Victoria: Frankston.)

I agree with Mary (see below) and I 'campaign' in this regard with my
colleagues, and 'inform' my students (many of whom will not become
systematists) re the value of vouchers. In addition to requiring
undergraduates (for scientific reports), honours and post-graduate students
(in theses) and colleagues (in journal papers) to list vouchers, we can
also comment on the need for vouchers (and the need for a budget to cover
associated expenses) when assessing grant proposals.

Cheers
