Dear Tony:
A couple of years ago, I found some plants which were attached to rocks;
this was in West New Guinea, or Irian Jaya, in the Lake Habbema area, at
some 3300 m alt in subalpine grassland with treeferns.
If you wish, I can ask colleagues of mine if they know the name of the plant.
I am an entomologist an forgot the name.
However, obviously the same species of plant usually grew on tree trunks.
Best wishes
Michael
