Position Title: Curatorial Assistant II
  Harvard University Herbaria

Duties and Responsibilities: Assists with the general curation of the 
vascular plant collections. Processes loan requests (selects material, 
prepares for shipping, generates accompanying paperwork) and exchanges; 
files newly acquired specimens and specimens returned from loan. Orients 
and assists users to the Herbaria; serves as a source of information to 
visiting scholars, students, other University departments and the public. 
Answers correspondence related to the collections; may perform some routine 
identifications. Updates the collection according to recently published 
monographs. Performs clerical functions related to the lending and exchange 
of specimens using a computerized database; assists in specimen label 
preparation and record-keeping. Inspects collections for evidence of insect 
infestation and treats material according to standard herbarium procedures; 
monitors for insects using traps. May also oversee the work of volunteers 
and other support staff; performs related job duties as required.

Requirements: College degree with specialized courses pertaining to the 
taxonomy of vascular plants and to herbarium/museum collections preferred; 
word processing and data entry skills, preferably with knowledge of the 
Windows environment and specimen databases. Strong interpersonal skills and 
the ability to work well independently and with others. Ability to lift up 
to 40 lbs.
