The Michigan State University Herbarium seeks a full-time Curator
Assistant.  The position requires a 4 year college degree in botany or a
related field, basic computer literacy, and experience with lichen or plant
curation.  Preference will be given to any applicants with lichenological
training, experience in an herbarium setting, and database management

Curator Assistant (APA 11)
Botany and Plant Pathology

REQUIRED:  knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by
completing a four-year college degree program in Botany or a related field;
one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or
expansive work experience in identifying and curating plant specimens and
maintaining records; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

DESIRED:  M.S. in Botany.

BASIC FUNCTION:  responsible for the day-to-day running of the MSU
Herbarium; provides for the record keeping, preservation, storage and
availability of the botanical collection; oversees all incoming/outgoing
plant shipments such as loans, exchanges, and gifts with institutions
throughout the world; provides training for students and volunteers in
current museum methods; provides information and assists with topics
relating to collection and use of the Herbarium; oversees Herbarium
facilities; directs and instructs Herbarium assistant and volunteers;
oversees mounting and finishing of specimens to preserve their scientific
value; carries out original research upon the collection to further promote
the accessibility and international reputation of the MSU Herbarium.
