I actually agree with Tom DiBenedetto.  To be clear, I didn't mean to imply
that cladistics doesn't work.  The problem is when you become totally
myopic like me and you want to look at a cladogenesis event at five minute
intervals, there's no way it is going to resolve in to crystalline
dichotomization.  Creatures are just too horny to let that happen.  After a
while they see the light...more or less.  The question is whether the
signals of early cladogenesis can or can not be resolved much later on in
the history of a taxon.  Thanks for the help with this.
