Jim,

Although I haven't tried it, I suspect that it is a simple string size problem in the input window of the browser.. Thus, you should be able to solve it by just making a
simple html page with your query as a link and then clicking on it rather than trying to paste it into the URL box on your browser.  I would be interested to know if this
works, let me know.
