OSU Insect Collection Curator position

Curator, Ohio State University Insect Collection

The OSU Insect Collection is a major university collection housing 3-4
million specimens. Our holdings are particularly strong in the
Coleoptera and Homoptera, and ongoing research efforts also include the
Hymenoptera.  We seek to fill the position of collection Curator whose
primary responsibilities are to oversee, develop and maintain the insect
collection; manage loans of specimens; maintain the computer database of
collection holdings; prepare exhibits; conduct tours; and provide insect
identification services.  The Curator will work closely with the Director
of the Insect Collection and may supervise other staff as
assigned.  Specifically, the Curator oversees and maintains the insect
collections, including acquisition of material, identification,
evaluation, labeling, sorting and mouning; supervises circulation of
specimens from the collection at the request of qualified investigators;
handles correspondence regarding loans of insect specimens; assists the
Director in maintaining a computer database of colleciton holdings and
the collection web site; builds the reprint library associated with the
collection; designs and creates exhibits; and assists the Director with
the development of exhibits and acquisition of new accessions.
Knowledge and experience in insect curation, ability to identify insects
to family and subfamily level, and a bachelor's degree in entomology or
equivalent experience are required; a master's degree or equivalent experience
is desired.
