Systematic Botanist, University of Kansas

Title and Department:
Joint position Assistant/Associate Professor, Department of Ecology and
Evolutionary Biology, and Assistant/Associate Curator, Natural History
Museum and Biodiversity Research Center, University of Kansas

Description of duties:
We seek applications for a tenured or tenure-track associate professor or
assistant professor and assistant or associate curator to:
1) conduct an active research program in the systematics of plants
emphasizing collections-based approaches and contemporary analytical methods;
2) serve as curator in the Division of Botany of the Natural History Museum
and Biodiversity Research Center, participating in the care
of the plant collections and contributing to the Museum and Research
Center's research, education, and service goals;
3) teach courses in systematic botany, organismal diversity, and/or general
biology and other core courses as well as seminars in areas of expertise;
4) interact with colleagues in related disciplines; and
5) contribute to the overall service of the Department, Museum and Research
Center, College, and University.

The position is a 9-month appointment and salary is commensurate with
experience (11-month appointment in the Museum and
Research Center).

Required qualifications:
1) Ph.D. in appropriate discipline that provides a strong background in
systematics and plant biology;
2) active research in systematic botany;
3) a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring at the
undergraduate and graduate level;
4) ability to teach courses in systematic botany, organismal diversity,
and/or general biology;
5) a commitment to excellence in curating and managing botanical systematic
research collections and their associated data for education, research and
public service.

Preferred qualifications:
1) Post-doctoral experience;
2) demonstrated teaching experience;
3) ability to attract external funding for research;
4) demonstrated curatorial experience with botanical systematic research
collections.
