The Field Museum: Systematic Botanist

        The Field Museum is seeking an outstanding systematic botanist
pursuing innovative specimen-based research in angiosperms or fungi who
will develop a strong field program and actively use the collections for a
career-track appointment in the Department of Botany at the level of
Assistant or Associate Curator.  Candidates who can also make important
contributions in a second interdisciplinary field such as biogeography,
developmental biology, ethnobotany, neotropical diversity, population
genetics, symbiosis/mutualisms, or theoretical systematics will be given
special attention.  In addition to research, responsibilities include
curation of relevant collections and participation in public learning
programs (including exhibits and informal education), development, and
administrative and service activities.  The successful candidate will have
a Ph.D., a proven record of scientific achievement, and the ability to
establish an externally funded research program.  There are opportunities
for participating in undergraduate and graduate training and for teaching
at local universities.
        The Botany Department is part of the museum's Center for
Evolutionary and Environmental Biology which includes the departments of
Geology and Zoology and the museum's Environmental and Conservation
Programs.  Facilities include over 2.5 million botanical specimens
(including one of the world's richest collections of neotropical plants),
an outstanding library, well-equipped molecular systematics laboratories,
and excellent computer facilities.  Consideration of applications will
