Jeffrey,
I can appreciate your thoughts and concerns.  But there is one thing we
need to keep in mind - belief in God (or Gods or deities of any sort) is
not a scientific position that can be researched and evaluated. Therefore,
opinions about and explanations of the world, themselves derived from
the particular set of religious tenets on which your belief is based, fall
outside the realm of science.  That's the whole point.  I refuse to
present to my students a creationist explanation of the origin of life,
etc. simply because it has nothing to do with an attempt to provide a
scientific explanation of what has happened and how it happened.

Whether I believe in God or a creator is not relevant to the question.
What is relevant is whether or not I use scientific reasoning to construct
and test hypotheses.
