On one level a chat room sounds like a good idea.  But, for those that do
field work, it is rather nice (in one way) to come back to a ton of messages.
 I can quickly delete non-relevant position announcements etc, but read the
wealth of information that I can use -- like in the last 2 weeks -- the
indumentum paper (which I remember now), the taxonomy book, and the
discussion on specimen citations.  I love the Taxacom threads we get on (and
the jokes and puns).  I also appreciate the fact that those of that don't go
on line every day get to enjoy the wit and information.  I fear that a chat
room would lose us some of this.
