DIRECTOR, PLANT MOLECULAR BIODIVERSITY STUDIES
As part of an expansion of its plant molecular systematics program
(The Lewis B. and Dorothy Cullman Program for Molecular Systematics
Studies, a joint initiative of The New York Botanical Garden and The
American Museum of Natural History), The New York Botanical Garden is
soliciting applications from outstanding candidates for the
directorship of a program in plant molecular biodiversity studies. As
the leader of this new, enhanced research and training effort at the
intersection of molecular and organismal biology, the appointee will
also hold an endowed chair at the associate or full curatorial rank
(equivalent to associate or full professor): The Lewis B. and Dorothy
Cullman Curator of Plant Molecular Biodiversity Studies. It is
further expected that the appointee will teach in at least one of The
New York Botanical Garden's joint doctoral programs with Cornell
University, Columbia University, the City University of New York, Yale
University, or New York University and that s/he will actively seek
peer-reviewed grants and contracts in support of research projects.
The successful candidate will possess a Ph.D. and will be fully
conversant with modern genomic approaches as applied to plant
systematics or economic botany. The specific disciplinary
specialization is open, but the essential talent required will be the
ability to creatively blend The New York Botanical Garden's unique
biodiversity collections assets and deep expertise in plant and fungal
diversity with the evolving genomics technologies. S/he will be a
dynamic, collaboratively-minded individual with proven skills in
interdisciplinary research team-building.
