Thanks to a National Science Foundation Research Collections in Systematics
and Ecology Grant, we have succeeded in curating over 40,000 Poaceae
specimens from the Beecher Crampton Herbarium (the old UCD agronomy
herbarium) and the J.M. Tucker Herbarium (the old botany herbarium). The
combined and updated Poaceae collection has been placed in new folders in
new cabinets in Robbins Hall at UC Davis. We welcome requests for loans
from this collection. Visitors may examine the specimens between 10 and 4
daily. Most of these specimens were not viewed by authors who prepared
treatments for the Jepson Manual (of the California flora) and may
represent previously unknown localities for some species.

In addition to our Poaceae project, we have labeled over 15,000 of Beecher
Crampton's unmounted specimens dating from the mid 1940s to the present.
Exchange is available to interested herbaria. The specimens are mainly
from California. Many of the specimens are from localities in the Central
Valley that have been wiped out by agriculture and housing developments.
Much of the exchange is Poaceae. We will begin distributing duplicates to
those institutions with which we have an active exchange program and to
which we owe specimens. However, we welcome inquiries from other herbaria.

We also have limited exchange from the Leiser Herbarium (the old UCD
horticulture herbarium). These are specimens of plants cultivated in
California. They are already mounted.

Interested parties should contact Ellen Dean (eadean at ucdavis.edu) or Jean
Shepard (jvshepard at ucdavis.edu) at the UC Davis Herbarium.
