Confusing names (2)

We maintain a taxonomy database at the NCBI,
for the organism names that are found in the various sequence databases.
Over the past eight years we have come across many examples of duplicated names
- I have appended a list of 87 duplicates below.
Some of these have been resolved, and not all of them have
representatives from both groups in the sequence databases.

At one point, we listed a genus name in triplicate.
I remember seeing a TAXACOM posting some years ago
that include a list of 8-10 valid triplicated genus names,
between the bacteriological, plant and animal codes.
I'll repost it if I can find it again.

I have even seen a few examples of duplicated binomials.

  Poria cocos (fungus & beetle)
  Pieris japonica (butterfly & plant)
  Culcita novaeguineae (starfish)
  Culcita novae-guineae (fern)

Of these, only Porio cocos (the fungus) is currently represented
in GenBank.
