red panda

TAXACOMERS,
    There was a study on mitochondrial gene sequences in 1996, which I
believe put the giant panda in Ursidae, and the lesser (red) panda in a
monotypic family Ailuridae.  Mammals Species of the World (1993) placed them
both in Ursidae.
     However, I've been told there may have been something published on this
more recently than 1996, that might put the lesser (red) panda back in
Procyonidae.  Has anyone seen anything on this controversy published in the
last couple of years?
