I'm reminded of a sign I saw on a bulletin board years ago: "Heisenberg may
have slept here." As long as we understand what they are, and don't confuse
them with vouchered locations, unvouchered locations are far superior to no
locations. If you wanted to find out whether species X occurs in your study
area, would it be better to go to the unvouchered location, or just search
randomly?
