Irish moss & carrageenan

I've never seen the term "sea moss", but Irish Moss usually refers to
a red alga, Chondrus crispus (Phylum Rhodophyta, Class Florideophycea). I
suppose it could be dried and stained as easily as Sertularia, but I am just
guessing. Since is it widely used in food processing and medicines,
Chondrus crispus would certainly be readily available for other purposes
(maybe even railway model scenery???). In any case, I'm sure most of our
diets contain Chondrus crispus "derivatives" (especially carrageenan in ice
cream).

NOT intended to imply in any way that railway model vegetational scenery is
edible. :-)
