In WordPerfect 6.1 for Windows, go to the Tools menu, select QuickCorrect,
click on the Options button, and click on the box next to "Capitalize First
Letter" to remove the "x" from the box.  This will keep the program from
automatically capitalizing epithets (otherwise it thinks they're a new
sentence).

Microsoft Word has a similarly annoying feature that you have to turn off.
