Barcodes

This is just to clarify some points in my emails that have been
extracted and rehashed here and lost much of their original content.
The facts on our barcode system here at FTG (herbarium) are:

1. We are using rather large 2.5 X 1 cm, single line barcodes (Code
128).
2. The numbers are sequential for our retrofitted specimens and equal
to the unique accession number for all new accessions.
3. They are printed on UV resistent plastic and come in rolls from which
they peel off.
4. The most current price is $6.50 per thousand from a commercial vendor
here in Miami (LABEL..IT 305 887-4949). At that price, it is clearly
not cost or time efficient for us to print our own. It certainly might
be efficient though to print your own if you need highly specialized or
very custom labels such as the 3 tiered type previously described.
