The Index to Plant Chromosome Numbers (IPCN) is a project that aims to
extract and index published original plant chromosome numbers of naturally
occurring and cultivated plants from throughout the world. Data from IPCN
have previously been available from the Missouri Botanical Garden's
w3TROPICOS web site (http://mobot.mobot.org/Pick/Search/pick.html) under
individual taxa. To make these data more accessible, however, we have
recently implemented a new index to chromosome counts.
>From the pop-up table under "TROPICOS options", choose Chromosomes
(IPCN). This will lead to a list of families or higher taxa. By selecting
a name from the list, an index of taxa with chromosome data will be
displayed. Note that bryophytes and pteridophytes are indexed separately
at the beginning of the list. Details on gametophytic and/or sporophytic
numbers and their respective bibliographic citations can be viewed.
For additional information on the IPCN project, refer to the last IPCN
issue: Goldblatt, P. & D. Johnson. 1998. Index to Plant Chromosome
Numbers 1994-1995. Monographs in Systematic Botany from the Missouri
Botanical Garden 69: 1-208.
