This question has come up previously on this list. There is unfortunately
no one united list for all museums. Different codens are used by different
disciplines. Botanists have pretty much got it together in one list (I say
"pretty" much); and there are many lists of museums and collections for
different taxa of animals. Those recognized by many for insects and
spiders can be found at:
