Morimoto (1966), Thompson (1992) and Zimmerman (1993, 1994) are two of the
authors who have split the Curculionidae up to create other families,
namely, Erirhinidae, Dryophthoridae, Brachyceridae, Erirhinidae, and
Platypodidae, and thus have restricted the family Curculionidae for
exclusively the taxa with non-orthocerous male genitalia.
Kuschel (1995), on the contrary, treated them as part of Curculionidae.
