Horticulturist Position Open=20
PART-TIME
Job Description: Gardening in Riverbanks Walled Garden includes, =
planting, pruning, fertilization and collections care. Gardening also =
includes notes, evaluation and working with Plant Records to insure =
accurate documentation. As a part of the Garden team, plan seasonal and =
permanent plantings, present garden tours and train master gardeners. =
Collect herbarium specimens and information for documenting collection =
plants in University of South Carolina Herbarium. Occasional work with =
Riverbanks Zoo horticulture staff.
This is an entry-level position but an excellent opportunity for growth in =
public horticulture. Our team views ongoing training and exposure to =
diverse gardens as a critical part of developing our Garden.
About Riverbanks: Riverbanks Botanical Garden is five years old. It has =
grown into a refined garden encompassing beauty and public appeal as well =
as an extensive collection of herbaceous perennial plants. We focus on =
herbaceous plants from climates similar to our USDA Zone 8. After =
evaluation for usefulness and beauty, we distribute plants through local =
nurseries and promote them to the public. Horticulture Team consists of =
15 people, most with degrees in horticulture. Located across the Saluda =
River, the 25 year old Zoo is internationally recognized for design, =
breeding and innovative visitor services.
Zoo and Garden are in initial phases of an 15 million dollar update, =
including a 3 million-dollar Garden Entrance project, which will be =
planned and planted by staff. =20
Requirements: Prefer BS in horticulture or related field. Experience may =
include internships or cooperative education. Demonstrated interest in =
public botanical gardens. Complete requirements & job description =
available. 29 HOURS PER WEEK -flexible within Monday thru Friday 7:30am - =
4:00pm
Compensation: $ 7.84 per hour. Flexible health, life and disability =
